Are you an admin?[edit source]

High, I'm Clonehunter. The same clonehunter on The Carnivores Saga Forums, Many STarwars and Jurassic PArk video game fansites, and admin of Modders Central. I would just like to know who's the admin here, or if you are? Or if any admins are still even active here. Thanks. --Mr. Clonehunter(Report your W.M.D.) 14:21, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Hello CloneHunter, you can see a list of admins on here (and on any MediaWiki wiki) by looking at Special:ListAdmins. As it happens, I just got admin/bureaucrat privileges on here, so I should be able to help you with whatever you need. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 21:44, December 1, 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the info. I would like to know how I could help here in any way, and hopefully move this Wiki to the Wiki Spotlight (100 non stub articles). So if I could help in any way just leave a message on my Talk page. Thanks!--Mr. Clonehunter(Report your W.M.D.) 13:21, December 2, 2009 (UTC)
No problem; I'm an admin on Wikipedia as well (which takes a lot of work), so I have a pretty good understanding of how the software works - if you need any help, feel free to ask. In the meantime, there's definitely plenty of work to be done around here, but I'm really still feeling it all out myself - I'm probably going to focus on a couple of articles to see what I can do before I really settle on anything specific. In the meantime, though, there's plenty of article expansion that can be done, and we also need more images (something I intend to do some work on shortly). Might I ask if you actually have any of the Carnivores games, by the way? (and one last note, a habit I got into on Wikipedia is keeping all discussion together on user talk pages; this makes it easier to go back and read through old discussions and also eliminates problems that come up when more than two people are participating =) ) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 08:01, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

No problem and thanks for the welcome!

Hi, I'd like to know if we could atleast use The Carnivores Saga's photos'?

Thanks that cleared up a lot of my questions, oh, and i ment machf's site

Template[edit source]

Hi again, I think I've done something. I was tweaking with the spinosaurus template trying to add a picture, I added one and when i was done I noticed the picture was on top of the template and some of the words in the template to the right. Also, the words and picture are on top of every other page with a template. I was hoping you would tell me how to fix this.Monkey Shooter 22:47, January 16, 2011 (UTC)

I fixed the template for you (and just to be clear, that template is used for all Carn, Carn2, and Carn Ice Age animals, and I'm probably going to expand it to cover Dinosaur Hunter as well). The animal infobox automatically uses images if they are named correctly, and I am using specific images for this case; I'll upload images for the C2 pointable animals before long. In the meantime, you can add the images you've uploaded elsewhere in their respective articles. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 00:59, January 17, 2011 (UTC)

Picture[edit source]

Hi again, I recently added a photo but I have a problem. I wanna add the link to the page I got it from but there's no licensing tab to add the link. Can you help me please? Heres the link http://carnivores-saga.webs.com/Monkey Shooter 12:53, February 18, 2011 (UTC)

Just edit the picture like you would a normal page, and add the link. You can add the source link in the "Summary" textbox when uploading a picture, as well. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 20:09, February 18, 2011 (UTC)

Pachy Picture[edit source]

Oh, sorry, I just thought that if i add a renamed version of your picture it would rename the the file itself. I did it because when you renamed the pachy's page it no longer used the pictures for the template. I was trying to fix this by renaming it but I really can't figure out how. Since you uploaded the pics I think you can do it. I hope you manage to fix the template for the Pachy.Monkey Shooter 00:23, February 23, 2011 (UTC)

Just ignore the above post. You got what I ment :)Monkey Shooter 00:23, February 23, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Dinoguy,[edit source]

I recently edited the DB Shotgun page. I wait for your thoughts before I edit any other articals. I was thinking we could add a Trivia page to each artical to post interesting facts about the subject. Also, mabye making a page for Cityscape and its weapons. As much as some people try to forget about that game, it is still canon to the series. Let me know your thoughts.ShadowRex8 20:57, May 3, 2011 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to the wiki, ShadowRex8. =) Are you a member of The Carnivores Saga forum (if so, what's your username)?
I saw, it looks pretty good, except that the infobox should be above the rest of the content on the page (I fixed that and made some other adjustments for you to look off of ;) ). Carnivores Cityscape already has an article, as you can see, but we definitely need more info on Cityscape and its animals, areas and weapons; I don't have the game myself so I can really only do so much with it.
Feel free to start editing anywhere you'd like; I watch pretty much every page on the wiki, so I'll be notified of any changes you make to existing articles, allowing me to check your changes and make any necessary fixes. ;) If there's anything you need help with, please don't hesitate to ask! ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 02:19, May 4, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not on Carnivores Saga, hoever, it seems like a really nice place. Perhaps someday I'll join. I have CityScape but it doesn't work on my new comp. But I've played it, so I can help you with animals, weapons, etc.ShadowRex8 19:27, May 4, 2011 (UTC)
Cool, I'd definitely appreciate the help. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 20:43, May 4, 2011 (UTC)

The sound for the Gallimimus was not changed in C:DH. Nor was any other sound in that game. I can't understand how anyone can relate the two sounds. Monkey Shooter 21:58, May 22, 2011 (UTC)

Iguanodon[edit source]

Hey, so I was wondering about the Iguanodon page: Should there be a section on it about the Iguanodon made by JenDOS and Rexhunter 99, since technically it can be an original dinosaur, or should it just contain info about the Primal Prey Iguandoon only? Your expert wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Saurian Target 04:03, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

Actually, I have been thinking off-and-on for some time now how we should best deal with mods like that. I know we need to document them somehow, but I really am not sure of the best way to do so (I do think, though, that for animals and weapons at least, documenting mods in the main article probably isn't the way we want to go). The methods I've been considering are something like "Mods/mod name" versus "Article/mods", though these are hardly the only possible ways and I'm definitely open for suggestions. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 04:07, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
Agreed, and I think the "Mods/mod name" would actually be a really good way to display them. But yes, it would be great to have mods like those on here, if someone would be willing to add them, I think I'm unqualified for the job. Saurian Target 03:22, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
Eventually, we'd want to have a system in place that would allow anyone to easily add new mod pages. For now, though, you shouldn't worry about trying to make the perfect article - maybe a sentence description or two, and a link to the relevant forum topic(s), should suffice.
Also, it seems you're having trouble getting the hang of indenting comments. It's pretty easy, you just have to remember to add one colon (:) to the "stack" - so, for instance, in replying to this message, you'll start your comment with four colons (::::). =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 04:14, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
Why don't we make it loud and clear that the animal is a mod, so nobody will think otherwise? Monkey Shooter 10:32, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
We should do that anyways, of course, but we probably don't want to go around mixing information on official stuff with information on mods. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 15:44, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

Rhino[edit source]

Hi Dinoguy1000, do you mind me asking what is wrong with the new Woolly Rhinoceros page edit. I don't see what's wrong with adding information on an incorrect feature of an animal. Do mind telling me? Monkey Shooter 02:03, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

It's because it is established canon (though not necessarily in-game) that the animals you hunt in the Carnivores games have nothing to do with Earth animals; they simply look alike by sheer coincidence and as a result, it is meaningless to say that an animal in a Carnivores game is not an accurate portrayal of its Earth counterpart. See "Q: Your Dinopedia contains mistakes about the dinosaurs! Why are some of the dinosaurs so disproportionally small/big/fast?" on Tatem Games' FAQ page. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 07:36, June 21, 2011 (UTC)
Well... I always believed that it was meant to explain why the animals became different over time.
I also have a lot of evidence to prove that these animals did indeed have Earth Origins.
(Note: This list applies to all organisms of FMM UV-32.)
  1. The dinosaurs are called reptiles. The animals wouldn't be called reptiles unless they were indeed gentically reptiles. ( If they were weren't "true" reptiles, this would be confirmed).
  2. The polar animals are called mammals. This important for the reasons mentioned before.
  3. The ability to convergently evolve an almost identical appearence in this varied (both geologically and biologically) environment would be virtually impossible unless it was the genuine animal,
  4. The plants found on the planet still exist or existed on our world. This is impossible unless the plants had eath origins.
  5. Tyrannosaurus is referred to by its species name, T-Rex. This can only be possible if it is the genuine Tyrannosaurus.
  6. It is perfectly possible if these animals are slightly different through evolutionary adaptations. Like Rexhunter99 frequently states on the forums and facebook pages, the varied amounts of animals from different geologic periods interacting with each other would need evolution to ultimately balance the ecosystem.
  7. There is evidence of Yautja (Predator) activity. Various Yautja remnents such as pyramids, temples, and dormant xenomorph eggs are found across the planet's known locations. It is also possible (and Action Forms most likely reason for inserting these features) that Predators brought the dinosaurs to the planet. If you watched the movie Predators, you would know that Yautja bring animals they deemed worthy to hunt (such as humans) to game hunting planets (FMM UV-32 could indeed be one). Dinosaurs and other extinct animals could easily be worthy candidates for hunting.
I believe that it was Action Forms intent to create real dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals on a different planet while creating a mysterious origin of these creatures. They added clues and Tatem Games created the connections and made it believable.
BTW, I also add the .TXU's and .TXM's of Carnivores Ice Age you wanted. I still have the fresh installed copy.Monkey Shooter 00:37, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

You're overthinking things. ;)
The use of familiar names for organisms unrelated to the Earth animals with said names is nothing unusual in sci-fi, and is almost certainly what will happen should extraterrestrial life actually be discovered; this has nothing to do with said life's relation to Earth organisms, but rather a matter of convenience - it's much easier to visualize roughly what an alien species might look like if it's described as a reptile rather than "Nonterrae genotype 227" or what-have-you (this is true not just for group labels like "reptile", but also genus and even specie names), and would be used even by xenobiologists (or whatever label one who would study alien biology might have), albeit (probably) mostly in informal settings.
As to the problem of convergent evolution (and setting aside my own beliefs on evolution for the sake of this conversation), given a sufficiently large universe, and ignoring the problem of transportation over such distances (since we're already in sci-fi), the probability of encountering an Earth-like planet, complete with Earth-like flora and fauna, approaches one, though admittedly not very quickly (for it to actually have a near-1 probability would probably require a universe much larger than our own). There is also the possibility that complex life, for all its variety, ultimately can only take on a select few overall layouts, which would mean that *any* complex alien life would bear at least some resemblance to Earth life.
While it is possible (likely, even, depending on the level of resemblance; I am not overtly familiar with Alien/Predator lore) that some of the indigenous artifacts in various areas may have been influenced by Alien/Predator canon, we have nothing in-canon, nor do we even have any remarks by developers, to support that. Remember that it's just as likely that the structures are simply the work of indigenous peoples, and that the eggs are simply dinosaur eggs, unless we can get one of the original developers to comment and confirm one way or the other.
And yes, as you may have guessed, I'm overthinking things too. ;)
Aah, cool, post them up when you get a chance! =D ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 03:55, June 23, 2011 (UTC)
Wait, Are trying to say that the animals on the planet aren't at all what they are supposed to be? I still believe that it was Action Forms intent on creating actual dinosaurs. Besides, this is a small foriegn game company, I don't think they would get too extreme by thinking what they weren't real dinosaurs.Monkey Shooter 11:04, June 23, 2011 (UTC)
Probably; I am, after all, drastically overthinking this. ;) Still, the official explanation is that these animals are not actually related to their Terran counterparts, regardless of what Action Forms' original intent may have been. If we cover differences at all, it should be either in the lead where we have a little blurb about the real-life animal, or in its own section. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 04:57, June 24, 2011 (UTC)

.TXU and .TXM[edit source]

Here are the texts you wanted.

McRath Island

Icy cliffs line the northwest side of this
small island. Rolling hills covered in sparse
vegetation and deep snowdrifts make this a
relatively safe and open area for newer
hunters.

Mild difficulty.
Ravaren's Bridge

This series of islands covered with lakes and
frigid swamps is connected by an elevated
bridge system. Pine trees cover this
otherwise barren area, making good cover
for hunter and prey alike.

Mild difficulty.
Ring of Infernus

Naturally secluded by a ring of extinct
volcanoes, this area is a unique blend
of desolate tundra and beaches that
contrast sharply with the snow-covered
peaks.

Intermediate difficulty.
Dry Nodus Lake

Small mounds and swamp are all that remain
of a disappearing lake on this snowy island. Cut
by glaciers into treacherous canyons and rivers,
an unwary hunter can easily become trapped in
the narrow areas.

Intermediate difficulty.
The Giant's Boot

This area is named for the boot print-shaped
lake in the western part of the island. Thick
forests and numerous rolling hills make perfect
hiding spots for dangerous prey. It is the most
dangerous island available to hunt.

Advanced difficulty.
Accessory : Camouflage

This special suit decreases an animal's
ability to detect you through sight. Use of
the camouflage deducts 15% from your total
points acquired during that hunt.
Hunting time: Dawn

Dawn is good time for hunting
herbivorous creatures, because they
are less likely to spook. Carnivores
are also less agressive at dawn.
Hunting time: Day

Day is the safest time to hunt due to
your increased ability to see targets
in comparison to dawn or night.
Beginners should hunt exclusively in
the daytime hours.
Hunting time: Night

When hunting at night, you will be using a
night vision system. Although most
herbivores are sleeping during this time,
carnivores are the most deadly at night.

Accessory : Double Ammo Load

Selecting this doubles the amount of
ammunition you will carry on the current
hunting expedition.
Use the Observer Mode to familiarize yourself
with animal behavior and different terrain.
Please note that no weapons and accesories are
available in this mode except binoculars and
the overhead area map.
Accessory : Radar

This allows you to view the animal location
on the map during your hunt. An animal is
depicted on the map as a red dot. Your
location is shown as the green dot with the
circle surrounding it. Please note that the
map shows only the animals you are hunting.
All other animals are masked. Use of the
map deducts 30% from your total points acquired
during that hunt.
Accessory : Supply drop

Selecting this will allow you to call in
a resupply ship that will drop a bag full
of the ammunition for each weapon you have
taken on your hunt. This can be used
only one time per hunt and will drop the
bag on the location you have requested it.
Accessory : Cover scent

This item allows you to mask your scent from
all animals reducing the likelihood of
being discovered. Use of the cover scent deducts
20% from your total points acquired during
that hunt.
Accessory : Tranquilizer

Tranquilizing an animal is an alternative to
killing it. This will drop the animal where
it stands with a quick-acting drug. Use of the
Tranquilizer adds 25% to your total points
acquired during that hunt.
Weapon : Pistol

This weapon has fast firing rate, but its accuracy
declines with distance. It is very good damage
for close combat, but less effective for distant
targets. The pistol will scare plant eaters,
but the noise will alert dangerous carnivores.
Weapon : Shotgun

This is intended as a close-range weapon. The
grouping of buckshot pellets will spread out
and decrease the damage power over distance.
Less accurate aim and great close-up firepower
make this a good choice for emergencies.
Weapon : Double-barelled shotgun

This weapon is same as shotgun, but can
fire two shots almost simultaneously.
The added noise can easily scare off
small animals while drawing attention
to predators.
Weapon : X-Bow

This weapon has two target areas, called
aiming pins. The top pin is sighted in for
40 meters, and the bottom pin is sighted for
80 meters. It is relatively silent, and can be
shot several times without alerting animals.
Weapon : Rifle

The target area for this weapon is the center
of the sighting circle. Although powerful,
aim your shot well. The rifle will scare
plant eaters, causing them to scatter, but the
noise will alert dangerous carnivores.
Weapon : Sniper rifle

This weapon is very accurate, and will shoot
exactly where the crosshairs are placed. Its
range goes as far as the binoculars, but is
narrow. This is not a weapon for a charging meat
eater, but fantastic for distance shots.

This is all the files in TXT folder, including the remaining .TXT and .NFO files. Also, would you be able to use Carnivores Ice Age menu images in the template if I posted them? Carnivores 2 area template[edit source]

Hello, again. I recently tried creating a template designed for Carnivores 2 areas. I tried inserting an InfoBox template. I deleted all the original text and inserted my own. After I did that, it said TemplateLoop: Template: Infobox or something very similar. I have no I dea what I did and I'm hoping you wouldn't mind telling what's wrong. Monkey Shooter 22:30, June 24, 2011 (UTC)

Replacing the original template was your problem. ;) When you want to create a new template, you have to actually create a new template, meaning you have to decide what to name it, then you can start it like you'd start other pages. In the case of an infobox for C2 areas, you should follow the pattern I started with {{Infobox Carnivores area}}, meaning it'll be located at Template:Infobox Carnivores 2 area. From there, you can just copy over the code from {{Infobox Carnivores area}} and work on tweaking it so it can be used for C2 areas instead, and don't hesitate to ask if you need help. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 00:04, June 25, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Dinoguy1000, although it's merely coincidental, One of the Yeti's many names can be translated to "Man-Bear". There's also another name for it that translates to "Cattle-Bear"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeti#Etymology_and_alternate_names Check it here. What I was wondering is if it would be proper in a trivia section. Also, turns out the Yeti uses the same animation numbers as Ceratosaurus making it possible to port to C2 100% perfectly without any animation number alterations. =P Think I should put any of this in the Yeti's article in a Trivia section?

Also, I'm uploading some better images of some animals, as well as official Action Forms renders taken from their old sites (which don't work properly anymore and firefox reads them as virus infested for some odd reason...) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Glitchhunter09 (talkcontribs) 08:28, December 21, 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I don't think the names really need to be noted here; the idea of the Yeti being some bipedal, almost-more-human-than-ape thing is pretty widespread. The animations matching up could be worth noting, though.
I see; it looks like we may be able to use at least a few of them in articles. I actually started on archiving the AF site a while back, but haven't touched it in some time... I should get back on that.
If you need help with anything, please feel free to ask (and sorry that I wasn't more help already; it's almost 4 in the morning here, and I'm about ready to retire for the night morning =D )! ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 09:51, December 21, 2011 (UTC)
I know. I just thought it would be interesting to mention. I read somewhere a long time ago there were three kinds of Yeti in Tibetian folklore. One of them was said have behaved like a bear. Walking on all fours and such. The other one was the bipedal one. There's also another one but I can't remember how it walked or behaved. I read it in a book made in like the 70's a few years back that I happened to find at my School's Library....
It's probably coincidental but it would be pretty interesting if it turned out Action Forms knew about the Tibetian legends.... Glitchhunter09 19:39, December 21, 2011

Rename Request[edit source]

Hi, I've been trying to get the call images you uploaded a few months ago onto the infobox. Only very recently have have I succeeded in editing the infobox to use them. The only setback is the call names are in a format that the infobox (and the code I added) can't use. My only request is that you rename the call images to the format below:

Carnivores 2 {{PAGENAME}} CALL.png

If you do that, the infobox will update with the images included. Monkey Shooter 16:36, December 24, 2011 (UTC)

I'll have a look in a minute; probably, I just need to create image redirects. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:05, December 24, 2011 (UTC)

Cityscape weapons[edit source]

Hello,

I have been working on converting the Carnivores: Cityscape weapons to C2/IA, so I have the models and textures.

I took pictures of all the weapon models with textures, and I added the X-Rifle and Grenade Launcher pictures, but I don't know how to edit the pistol, sniper rifle, or shotgun templates, so can you add the pictures for those three?

Here they are:

File:Pistol.pngFile:Shotgun.png

File:Sniper.png

Adding them to the infobox will have to wait until I actually write an infobox for Cityscape. In the meantime, you can add the images to their respective articles just like normal. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:10, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

I locked the page because you and Flish were edit-warring over the addition. For the record, it appears that current scientific consensus is that Amargasaurus probably did not have any type of connective tissue between the spines on its neck, as reflected in its Wikipedia article. Because of this, and because the Amargasaurus model featured in Dinosaur Hunter doesn't have any such tissue, our article should not suggest that it did. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:48, June 23, 2012 (UTC)

The fact that Amargasaurus didn't have skin between the spines is not a proven fact. I have a paleontologist friend that has said they personally think Amargasaurus would have had skin between the spines to look larger against predators and rivals. Amargasaurus has The ability to move its neck just fine to reach food. It a fern grazer after all, not a tree-leaf eater. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Baryonyx13.5 (talkcontribs) 02:22, June 24, 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Baryonyx is repeatedly:

  • Changing the sense strength for the Tyrannosaurus on the Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter page from Average, Excellent, Average, to all excellent. Now, I know my formula may be wrong, but he cannot change one and leave the others alone.
  • Adding real-life information to the Carnotaurus page without Citations
  • Changing information on the Troodon page that you can test yourself in game and prove because he doesn't want it there.
  • Adding information that is, like the Amargasaurus skin, speculative to the Oviraptor page.

I feel like me and him are being a nuisance, but he seems out to get me simply because I proved him wrong on the Amargasaurus, and I was wondering if you could talk to him or something. Waffle_flish 03:38, June 24, 2012 (UTC)

I proved him wrong on the senses of Tyrannosaurus, we doesn't Flish edit the others CORRECTLY Baryonyx13.5 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.24.192.175 (talkcontribs) 16:54, June 24, 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

No, you didn't. As I've told you several times, My formula says otherwise. If we're going to say all of Tyrannosaurus's senses are excellent, so must we say that Utahraptor and Ceratosaurus have excellent senses, but the bubbles clearly say otherwise. Waffle_flish 18:44, June 24, 2012 (UTC)

Couldn't there still be a chance that Amargasaurus had skin (the Earth one) because first of all this is an alien, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Baryonyx13.5 (talkcontribs) 22:19, June 24, 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

No, it would limit mobility considerably for one, and two, it wouldn't have shrunk in the first place if it had predators it had to fool. Though this isn't the place to debate this. Waffle_flish 22:36, June 24, 2012 (UTC)

First off: you two need to stop edit-warring, period. It doesn't matter who's right or wrong, articles aren't the place to decide that. If one of you makes an edit that the other disagrees with, talk it out instead of reverting or otherwise changing the edit in question. If you two get in another edit war, though, I'm blocking both of you for a day; I don't have the patience to play referee.
Next, about the Amargasaurus: the in-game model does not have any skin or other connective tissue between the neck spines. Regardless of whether the real-life animal did or not (which is still very much an open question, though general scientific consensus appears to be that it wasn't very likely), the in-game animal does not and in cases like these we defer to the game for physical descriptions.
About the Tyrannosaurus' sense acuities in C:DH (and other such information): whenever possible, we defer to in-game data. Ideally, this means values taken directly from the game's files (as I have done for all C2 animal and weapon information), but where that isn't available for some reason, the next-best source official resources such as the Dinopedia, readme files, and game manuals, even if they seem to conflict with the way the game actually works (even if there is an inaccuracy, we still want to note it as a bit of trivia). A personal formula or system should only be used as a last resort if none of this other stuff is available, and should be replaced with official information as soon as possible.
Lastly: like I started out saying, you two need to stop edit-warring and talk these things out. Stop worrying about who is right or wrong. I don't care, our readers don't care, and in three months' time, you won't care. Improving the articles should be your first and foremost concern whenever you edit. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:57, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

My edits[edit source]

My edits are helpful why do you delete them? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.133.34.95 (talkcontribs) 21:45, November 30, 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I'm not sure which of your edits you might be referencing, so I'll run down all of them:
  • I reverted your edit to Tyrannosaurus because, for the Carnivores games, it's not true. If it is true for Primal Prey, you should specify that. If you were instead referring to real-life T-rexes, scientists don't know what the general social behavior of rexes was like - it's possible (and somewhat likely, if we look at the behavior of many large, apex predators alive today) that rexes would have fought each other if they met in most circumstances, but it's also possible that rexes could have been reasonably social animals - we really can't say one way or another.
  • Your edit to Smilodon was reworked somewhat by Monkey Shooter to read better and be grammatically correct, but it was not removed.
  • No one touched your edit to wild boar.
  • Your creation of archaeology outpost and Stonehenge have not been undone, and indeed I greatly appreciate you creating them. I reworked and expanded the text you provided on them, but other than that, your contributions are still there.
  • Your edit to Dimetrodon was reverted by Monkey Shooter; you'd have to ask him for an explanation.
  • I reverted your edits (2, 3) to Spinosaurus because they were written from the perspective that the fauna on FMM UV-32 is supposed to be the same as Earth fauna; Action Forms and Tatem Games have both said that this is not the case (Tatem Games formerly addressed this in their FAQ page, but that seems to have been taken down, unfortunately; I discuss it more in an above section, though). Because of this, we don't point out inaccuracies in the animals' appearances when they're being discussed from an in-universe perspective. Unfortunately, though, I still haven't gotten a general layout for the animal articles hammered out, so I'm still not sure just what's going to be discussed in-universe and what isn't.
Please don't be discouraged by having edits of yours reverted or reworked; I do still appreciate your help, since it's otherwise usually just me editing! =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:23, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Maybe, but it should go either in the "Biology" section (or wherever the characteristics of the real-life animal are discussed) or in a "Design" section, discussing the design of the animal from an out-of-universe perspective. I'm sorry, but there's no way to change or remove edit summaries after the edit's been saved. I wouldn't have used a summary like that ordinarily, but to be honest, based on the content of your addition and the fact that it was your only edit, at the time I thought it was vandalism, or at the very least, had no relation whatsoever to this wiki's coverage, and in such cases I tend to be somewhat more flippant than normal (and, perhaps, than I should). Message From P.Rex[edit source]

Hey Dinoguy, I'm posting here in reply to the message you left me on the Carnivores Atlas. I am both surprised and delighted at the interest you've shown at my little project. My idea behind the Atlas was to create a comprehensive database for all the mods, maps, skins and other fan-made contributions, and organize it all into one "fanon" that would be an extension to the official Carnivores universe- our own version of the canon that's made by the fans, for the fans. I especially wanted to put emphasis on the various maps and locales- both official and custom- hence the name "Atlas", and make a comprehensive, in-universe "tour guide" on each (see my articles on Trophy Room and Ancient Coast for examples), without neglecting the custom animals, weapons and other assets. I've made it on a seperate wiki since I assumed you'd want to limit the official wiki to "official" canon. Also, your wiki also includes Shark and Primal Prey, while mine focuses solely on the Carnivores series.

Recently, I haven't added much to the Atlas. Because it relies on fan contributions, most of the recent edits were focused on the animals while the maps were somewhat neglected. I hope to resume work on it eventually, and as always I could use the help of someone who can write in an elegant and professional style. If you're interested, your contributions would be most valuable.

I eagerly await your response and hope for a further cooperation between our wikis.

Apology[edit source]

I see you've undone my changes; I'm sure however you might have been annoyed by my comments. I apologize for my rude behavior and can see that you've done the same in retort. Which is fine. But I still don't see the need to create an external link to a less than reliable (or even developed) source. Your arguement for trying to help them gain attention makes sense and isn't wrong; save that we barely have any attention ourselves. Really we only have three dedicated editors. Yourself, me, and Saurian Target and likely not to many visitors; why should we promote a whole fanon wiki when the real one isn't even out of the cradle? I know I might be ranting unnessecarily; but I don't feel that's fair for this wiki. Even if we only have a few links.

I've also seen your edit to the Indricotherium page. Why did you change the name? If we're basing the pages on thier current taxonomic naming; we'd have to change Diatryma, Brontotherium, Tapejara, and Oviraptor (cityscape's definition is the now changed mongoliensis). I thought the page titles were based on thier naming in game. Not in the real world. Shouldn't we change it back?

Monkey Shooter (talk) 13:11, July 23, 2013 (UTC)

Don't worry too much about it, I just wish you'd stopped and asked about it after you saw it was on more than just a couple pages or you saw I'd been the one to add it. =)
My intention with my edit summaries wasn't to retaliate against you in any sense, I just have a bit of a liberal sense of humor (I find all sorts of things funny that others might only roll their eyes at or whatever =D ), and I was letting it show in my edit summaries.
If you'd like to read about my agreement to enter a partnership with The Carnivores Atlas, you can check it out here; I hope it'll help alleviate some of your concern. =)
Right. My reasoning behind renaming Indricotherium is a bit convoluted: basically, in the other cases, we have no evidence from the developers that they were aware they were using junior synonyms or incorrect names (and at least in the case of Oviraptor, the name was scientifically valid at the time of the game's development and publication; I haven't looked at the others yet to see how they line up). Here, though, we have comments on the Facebook page where someone points out the status of "Indricotherium" as a junior synonym and Tatem Games acknowledges that but states that the game already uses the name, so presumably they can't change it at least until after the next update, or possibly at all for some reason. It's a bit along the line of how we have the article for "Gallimimus" at the title with two "L"s even though the games misspell it with only one (I'd use "Brontotherium"/"Brontoteriy" as an example instead, but you've already pointed out that "Brontotherium" doesn't seem to be the correct genus name (something I didn't previously know)). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:21, July 23, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I've talked to Nadia about this thing and I think it has a lot to do with marketing more than being scientifically correct. I think they pick whatever synonym of the creature sounds better to them and use that for the sake of marketing the animal in updates. I think they're doing something similar with Diatryma and "Archaeopterics" actually.  Glitchhunter09 (talk) 19:40, July 23, 2013 (UTC)
I understand; but Tatem has already confirmed it as Indricotherium, why shouldn't it stay named as a junior synonym like Diatryma since that was incorrect at time of publishing? Tatem has no intention of changing it as far as we can see, so I don't see the need for that change. As for Archaeopteryx and Brontotherium; both of those names are used in the Dinopedia making them valid naming for the Carnivores Wiki pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Monkey Shooter (talkcontribs) 20:19, July 23, 2013. Please sign your posts with ~~~~
The "Paraceratherium" article already clearly shows what's going on, and the navbox and game article both use "Indricotherium" for the link while linking directly to the animal's article. In addition, the title "Indricotherium" redirects to the article. There is no potential for confusion for any person paying even the least bit of attention, so I'm not convinced anything further needs to be done here. As for Tapejara, Diatryma, and Brontotherium, as I said before, I haven't actually looked at these cases yet to see if they are the same as Indricotherium, or if they're like Oviraptor; which one it is will determine what ultimately is done with those articles when I do get around to checking. =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:24, July 24, 2013 (UTC)
Alright, please take the time to look into the naming then; and I guess we should follow suite with the rest. As for the current "misnamed" creatures; Wikipedia lists them as their proper taxonomy. Since we're linking information to that site, I figure that's a good reference. No need to worry about the Oviraptor page being renamed though; the page already defines the difference between both species (Based on both in-game appearence and real-world/CCmanual taxonomy). BTW that reminds me, we should really start looking into beefing up the Ice Age pages and making a template for the mobile versions; I have a copy of the dinopedia if we need descriptions and I believe you said you have the demo for the game; which could help you confirm what people are claiming for the game (not pushing this though, just thought it might be good reference). I guess we should start making community goals like other wiki's, huh? One can dream :D. Monkey Shooter (talk) 03:28, July 24, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, all that's been on my to-do list for quite a while. =)
As for C:DH and C:IA specifically, I recently got my hands on an Android smartphone and have the full version of C:DH and the free version of C:IA, so I can much more directly work on stuff that way. I'll have to see how screenshots turn out, though.
One major thing I'd like to do is get the Primal Prey stuff pushed off to its own wiki. To that end, I founded the Primal Prey wiki, and I'll start importing the Primal Prey stuff there before long. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:29, July 24, 2013 (UTC)

Dinosaur Hunter HD reviews[edit source]

Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter HD did not entirely get negative and mixed reviews. It happened in movies too, for example Jurassic Park III got I believe around 4/10 or 3/10 meaning mixed or negative. But this game has 4.5/10. I would consider mostly mixed and a quarter of negative reviews. What would you think? Jfgoofy (talk) 12:54, March 23, 2014 (UTC)Jfgoofy

To tell the truth, since I've thought about it more, I'm not really seeing why we should worry so much about its reception at all. Leave that to Wikipedia, while we focus more on improving our coverage of the game's content. (Just to be clear, we do want to cover reception to *some* degree, but it shouldn't be something we worry very much about, especially when our coverage of the game is so incomplete.) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 13:46, March 23, 2014 (UTC)

Conjecture and feature requests have no place on this wiki; if you or others want to suggest animals and the like to be included in future updates, the place to do so is on the official Facebook pages, Youtube channels, and other official community pages. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:37, April 15, 2014 (UTC)

Content register[edit source]

Can you say/show me how to make a content register?

Syxes (talk) 15:23, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean; can you link me to an example? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:56, June 1, 2014 (UTC)
I can not better explain it, but File:Content.png —Preceding unsigned comment added by Syxes (talkcontribs) 14:30, June 2, 2014. Please sign your posts with ~~~~
Oh, you mean the table of contents. It is added automatically by the wiki on a page that has more than three headers, otherwise you can force its appearance with __FORCETOC__. You can get more info on this and other TOC switches at mw:Help:Magic words#Behavior switches, and much more in-depth/technical coverage at mw:Manual:Table of contents. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:12, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

Can you help me with the template infobox?[edit source]

I have some problems with the template how can I edit Parameters? Syxes (talk) 15:44, June 26, 2014 (UTC)

Oh and if I am here can you say me how to open the android game files? Syxes (talk) 15:46, June 26, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by editing parameters; could you link to an article and point to exactly what on the article you'd like to change?
Unfortunately it's been too long since I've looked around in the files to remember for sure, but if I recall correctly, the files are all stored in .obb files, which are just ZIP archives with a changed file extension; you should be able to open them by changing ".obb" to ".zip" and then opening them in whatever tool you usually use to open ZIP files. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:43, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
I have opened the files and found a model and texture for Dilophosaurus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Syxes (talkcontribs) 10:14, June 29, 2014. Please sign your posts with ~~~~
I just checked, and you're right; in light of that, I've created Dilophosaurus with the information that we currently know. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:46, June 29, 2014 (UTC)

Change logo?[edit source]

I have a question: How can I edit the logo of the webside/tab, if I am admin? Syxes (talk) 17:59, July 23, 2014 (UTC)

You should be able to do so via Special:ThemeDesigner. If you meant the logo on the Monobook skin, that can be changed by uploading a new image at File:Wiki.png. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:19, July 23, 2014 (UTC)

Two new questions.[edit source]

  • How can I add a signature, if a user havent signed his post?
  • Where are the Ice Age (Android) textures of the animals, the structure as in the Dinosaur Hunter files, isnt the same?

How can I delete images on the wiki?[edit source]

No worries I don't want to delete picture here. Syxes (talk) 12:10, August 29, 2014 (UTC)

Undocumented Formats[edit source]

This probably isn't really the best place to ask but I dunno where else to contact you.

But hey, I'm looking to get started with messing around with the Chasm! The Rift file formats, mainly to extract textures and possibly get Rex to add them to later versions of his editor. (they also use .CAR for some files although they are different)

Seeing as you documented the Carnivores file formats, do you think you could point me in the direction of tutorials or such relating to working with undocumented game resource files? I know the basics of hex editing and all but this is over my head.

Ibuildcircuits (talk) 21:30, January 24, 2015 (UTC)

Hey IBC, this is a fine place to ask me this. =)
The first thing I'd recommend to you is to do some googling and see if anyone else has already explored any of the formats and published their work on the internet, since this could save you a lot of trouble. For example, the *.bin files have been worked out and documented here.
Next, I just want to point out that I've done comparatively little work on reverse-engineering file formats myself. Most of the work on the formats for the original PC games was done by machf; my most significant contribution was just working out the savegame formats, and that's something that took me a number of hours of changing various things in-game and then comparing hex values; had he taken the time to look at them himself, I know for a fact that machf could have worked them out in far less time than it took me. I still don't have much experience, so I'm probably not the best person to ask for advice. But I do have a few tips, regardless, that might help you out.
To start with, find a relatively simple file format that's already documented. Get some sample files, or create some if you have a program that can save files using that format, and then open them in a hex editor and follow along with the documentation. Go through several files, getting a feel for what changes, and how it changes, and what doesn't change between them. After that, try creating a valid file manually - by writing the hex values yourself. This is a great way to learn how a lot of file formats work and to make sure your knowledge is correct, so this is a method that should always be in your toolbox.
After you're reasonably comfortable with that format, pick another one, preferably slightly more complex, and ideally one that stores a different type of data (for example, if the first format you picked was an image format, you might pick an archive format for the next one). Do the same thing here. At this point, you're looking to solidify the skills you picked up from exploring the first format, as well as looking for general principles and techniques that can help you with other formats. Repeat this with more formats until you're comfortable with what you're doing; you may not even need to do this with any more formats after the second one.
Now, pick a format you haven't looked at yet, but that's documented. Again, you'll probably want something reasonably simple. Instead of looking at the documentation, this time you'll be trying to work the format out yourself. You don't have to figure out what every byte does, you're just looking for the big picture: if it's an image format, you'd want to figure out where the image dimensions are stored, for example, as well as the pixel size, if the format allows for different bit depths. Once you think you've got a good idea what's going on, open the documentation and compare your notes against it; if you made mistakes, try to figure out why you made them, and thus how to avoid that in the future. Again, you'll want to repeat this with a few different formats.
There are tools you can use to help with this stuff, too. For image and graphics formats, IrfanView supports hundreds of different formats natively, and it has an "Open as RAW" feature that you can use to try and guess the properties of the image (it opens the image with the settings you've provided, and it's generally very quickly obvious if you don't have something right). MultiEx Commander allows you to write scripts using its MexScript language to open any archive format where you know how the format works, though the program is donateware, so you may not be able to get it. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of similar tools for other types of formats, but if there are any, some googling should turn something up.
I hope this helps, and sorry I couldn't help any more than this! ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:51, January 25, 2015 (UTC)
I just looked at MultiEx Commander, looks quite useful. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this all up, thank you very much!  Ibuildcircuits (talk) 04:54, January 26, 2015 (UTC)

How often are you on this wiki[edit source]

How often are you on this wiki and how many of the Carnivores game have you played? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lacq2 (talkcontribs) 03:57, March 14, 2015. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I have the entire wiki on my watchlist, and receive an email notification whenever a page is edited, so generally I swing by whenever I notice activity, though I don't always manage to.
I've played all three of the original PC titles as well as Dinosaur Hunter and Ice Age on Android. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 14:48, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

Upcoming Animals[edit source]

I have noticed a problem. There are a few dinosaurs that are no longer upcoming but are in the game still in the list. By any chance could you please remove them from that list. Lacq2 (talk) 07:10, March 16, 2015 (UTC)

Which ones, and can you point me to where Tatem have said they're no longer upcoming? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 13:10, March 16, 2015 (UTC)

A Favor[edit source]

Unrelated to Carnivores but I need to ask a favor. http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=10782 I need to get my hands on this extractor and I know you're an admin there. I don't want to join a forum for the sake of getting something. That's kinda wrong. So I was wondering if you could help me out and upload it somewhere else for me.  Thanks.

Founder[edit source]

So I am wondering, who is the founder of this wiki —Preceding unsigned comment added by WildernessRescuerJonathan (talkcontribs) 18:33, November 23, 2015. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I think that would be Chas1123, but it seems the profile masthead no longer shows the "Founder" tag, so I'm not 100% sure. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 14:57, February 14, 2017 (UTC)

Can't add this to the Talk:Paraceratherium page[edit source]

I couldn't change that page to add a new discussion topic and was told to talk to an administrator. Two Chinese researches have concluded Indricotherium is a valid genus, distinct from Paraceratherium. Whether the 1989 Western taxonomy that lumps them together is correct is still debated.189.123.127.194 18:19, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

I'm not seeing anything that would prevent you from editing either Paraceratherium or its talk page. "Two Chinese researchers" don't sound like a scientific consensus, so it would probably be premature to rename our article or take other actions. And at any rate, I'm not an admin here any more, so if an admin was required for some action related to this, I wouldn't be able to do it. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:20, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
